Saint Kateri Tekakwitha

Kateri Tekakwitha was born in Auriesville, NY in 1656 to an Algonquin mother and a Mohawk Indian Chief father. She was baptized a Christian in 1676 by a Jesuit and spent the balance of her short life (24 years) helping her people.

She was declared Blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1980 and is the patroness of peace and ecology.
