Beginning in 1843 the Jesuits founded the parish to serve a community consisting mostly of German immigrants. Also, the church is the site of the only authenticated miracle in the Midwest.

In recent years a complete restoration has taken place. Hundreds of people joined forces to make it happen. They have done a magnificent job!
