Shrine of Saint Anne

Detroit, MI

This shrine has been approved by Rome as one of the shrines of Saint Anne. It is the oldest parish in Detroit and began in 1701, the same year the city was founded.

Father Gabriel Richard (1767-1832) is buried in the church.

Under the direction of The Basilian Fathers the parish is really making things happen in the neighborhood, Phase 11 of house building has begun.  Eleven new homes are beginning to take shape. (Eleven were built in Phase 1.)  Also, work has started to prepare the ground for a 65 unit senior citizen complex one block from the church.  In addition, the Bagley Housing Association is helping to rehabilitate 25 older homes in the neighborhood.  Things are looking good.
