Basilica of the National Shrine
Baltimore, MD
The Basilica is first
cathedral in the United States and the mother church of Catholicism in the
nation.
This great cathedral was the site of the first seven provincial councils and three plenary councils in our country. During the Synod of Baltimore in 1791, was the declaration of the Blessed Virgin Mary as patroness of the diocese and the fixing of August 15, the feast of the Assumption, as the feast day of the diocese. A major restoration was completed in November 2006. |
