Franciscan Monastery
Holy Land of America
Washington, D.C.
The Church and Monastery of Mt. Sepulcher is a religious center for
the pilgrims and tourists of all faiths. It is built along the
architectural lines of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The church and grounds
contain replicas of the principal Shrines and Chapels found in the Holy
Land; the main Shrine being a replica of the Holy Sepulcher of Our Lord
Jesus Christ. The crypt of the church contains replicas of the Catacombs
of Rome and has fine copies of early Christian art and inscriptions. The
Monastery itself, in simple architectural lines is reminiscent of the
monasteries of old Europe. This is a very beautiful and large place of worship. Plan two or three days here to fully appreciate it's buildings and grounds. |
