The National Shrine of

Saint Francis of Assisi

Pro-Cathedral of the Archdiocese of San Francisco

The Saint Francis Parish was formally established on June 12, 1849 and the first Mass was on June 17th. It was the first parochial Mass celebrated in the State of California.
Located in the heart of San Francisco's North Beach district, Saint Francis of Assisi Church today continues to build upon its historical mission. No longer a parish, the church has become the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi.
